SPCS Pedagogy Community of Practice

The School of Professional & Continuing Studies (SPCS) Pedagogy Community of Practice (CoP) is a self-organizing community of teachers of adult and non-traditional students in the University of Richmond. We follow Wenger’s model for communities of practice; the focus of our group is collecting, sharing, and encourage best practices in adult pedagogy.
SPCS Innovation Committee
Role: Co-chair
The SPCS Innovation Committee is a working group of six people composed of a two full-time assistant chairs, three full-time professional staff, and one full-time administrator. The committee is charged with proposing to the school’s dean one or two comprehensive innovations that can be successfully implemented toward achieving goals of the school’s strategic plan. The committee’s work will conclude upon submitted the final proposal to the dean unless tasks with implementation.
SPCS Badging Workgroup
Role: Recorder, member
The SPCS Badging Workgroup is a working group of professional staff developing a framework for testing a badging proof of concept. The framework is being developed as a school-wide method for proposing a badging component to an existing or new program. The workgroup’s goal it to implement a badge proof of concept for at least one existing program and measure its success using guidelines developed in the proof of concept framework. The group’s work will transition to a group that evaluates proposals and implements badging processes.
Recruiting Action Team Events Subcommittee
Role: Recorder, member
The RAT (Recruiting Action Team) Events Subcommittee is an ongoing working group of the now-disbanded RAT focused on community events and engagement. The subcommittee identifies and vets potential community engagement and recruiting opportunities for the school. provides personnel coverage for events, and evaluates the success of community engagement efforts. The subcommittee’s work is ongoing.
